Yahoo! to set up a technological center in Chile

Yahoo! executives have announced that they have chosen Chile as the country where the Yahoo! Research Center, the first technological research center of Latin America, will be established and that it will focus on researching and analyzing information available on the internet.

The main executives led by Usama Fallad, Chief Data Officer, said: “This new center which we are setting up in Chile will help us maintain our capacity to bring the best and the most outstanding in internet related research, so that, in this way, we can keep on spreading the presence of Yahoo! Research”.

The Under Secretary of Economy stated that “as Chileans, this project should make us feel proud because it shows that we have the human resources to be part of the state-of-the-art research on the Internet, and because we continue to be a country with favorable conditions for attracting large companies to set up”.

The center will be focusing on “internet search engine technologies to improve the operation of organizations and the optimization of the handling of large amounts of information”, the company stated. Yahoo! Research is the part of the company where search engine technology and applications are developed. Examples include services such as Yahoo! Maps or Yahoo! Answers.
