Rolando Ortega assumed as Economic Counselor of the Embassy of Chile

On June 28th, 2006 the First Secretary Rolando Ortega assumed as Economic Counselor of the Embassy of Chile succeeding Mr. Alex Foxley.

Mr. Ortega is a member of the Chilean Foreign Service and he has served as economic adviser at the Economic Department of the Chilean Embassy in Washington since February 2004. In that position he was in charge of economic issues, trade promotion activities and the implementation of the Chile-US Free Trade Agreement.

From 2001 to 2003 he was Chief of Staff of the Director General for International Economic Relations (DIRECON) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He also has served at the Embassy of Chile in London, UK and at the General Consulate of Chile in La Paz, Bolivia. Within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he also worked at the American Division in charge of the Brazil desk.

Mr. Ortega is an economist from the Universidad de Chile. He also studied Diplomacy at the Diplomatic Academy of Chile. He is married and has 3 children.
