Business and Investment Opportunities in Chile's Energy Sector

The Government of Chile is organizing a seminar entitled “Business and Investment Opportunities in Chile’s Energy Sector” that will take place in New York City on Wednesday, September 20, starting at 8:00 AM. The event will be held in the Astor Ballroom of the InterContinental The Barclay New York Hotel, located at 111 East 48th Street.

The seminar will feature a keynote speech by H.E. Michelle Bachelet, President of the Republic of Chile. Other participants include Ms. Karen Poniachik, Minister of Mining and Energy; Mr. Carlos Alvarez, Executive Vice-President of Chile’s Economic Development Agency (CORFO); and key business leaders from our country’s electricity sector.

The purpose of the seminar is to brief the U.S. business community about Chile’s energy sector and about new opportunities for investment in power generation, using both traditional and alternative renewable sources. Representatives of the country’s main electricity distributors will also talk specifically about the openings created by the international power supply tenders they have issued.

Chile is implementing a number of short and long-term measures under its new “Energy Security Policy”, an ambitious initiative that seeks to diversify the country’s energy matrix, increase its autonomy, and promote the efficient use of energy. The country’s demand for electricity between 2010 and 2024 is forecast to surpass 300,000 GWh, equivalent at current energy prices to a total reference value of more than US$ 10 billion.
